Commercial Extension Project | A Bigger, Better, Brighter Future for Kings Carpets, Barnstaple

We’re proud to announce the successful completion of the exciting new extension for Kings Carpets at Pottington Business Park, Barnstaple.

This 1,300 sq ft addition marks a major milestone for one of North Devon’s best-known independent flooring businesses and we at L. Vickery Building Contractors Ltd are delighted to have helped bring their long-term vision to life.

The project has transformed Kings Carpets’ premises, adding:

• A spacious new flooring showroom area to showcase an even wider range of products

• Enhanced lighting to create a bright, welcoming environment

• A customer café area offering complimentary drinks for visitors

Originally a dream over 30 years in the making, the extension took three years of careful planning and approvals before construction began. Our team worked closely with Martin and Jack Harvey and the Kings Carpets team throughout the build, ensuring a smooth process and minimal disruption to their day-to-day operations.

It was a pleasure to see the project come full circle, from the turf-cutting ceremony last November, attended by loyal customer Claire from Pilton. To the final handover of a space that truly reflects the Kings Carpets ethos: Bigger, Better, Brighter.

The build itself comprised the construction of a new shop front commercial unit on Pottington Industrial Estate. The design features a heavily glazed frontage with bespoke, specially made fire-rated windows, giving the building a clean, modern aesthetic while meeting the highest safety standards. The structure is formed from a steel frame clad in traditional brickwork, sitting on a reinforced subfloor with an integral planter to soften the frontage. For performance and efficiency, we installed a Quadcore KS1000 Kingspan insulated roof system, providing superior thermal and acoustic insulation. The project also incorporated a Delta Membrane tanking system for waterproofing. A huge thanks to the support of FJF Engineers Consultants (Folkes Jackson Fewings), Harmony Profiles, whose combined expertise helped deliver an outstanding result.
